How to sign a PDF online
- Drop your PDF on the box above or click Choose a PDF.
- Create your signature. On the Draw tab, sign inside the box with a mouse, finger or stylus. On Type, write your name and pick a handwriting style (both cover accented and Vietnamese letters). On Upload, add a photo or scan of your signature on white paper and let the tool remove the paper. Choose black or blue ink and, if you like, add today's date under the signature.
- Place it. Press Add to this page. The signature appears on the document: drag it where it belongs, drag the round handle to resize it, or use the arrow keys and the size slider. Use the page buttons to move through the document, and Add to every page if each page needs a signature or initials.
- Click Sign and save PDF and download
yourfile-signed.pdf.
Everything runs in your browser. Your PDF and your signature are never uploaded, and nothing about the signature is stored once you close the page. There is no sign-up, watermark or limit on documents.
What kind of signature is this?
This tool adds an image of your signature to the page, the same as signing a printed copy and scanning it. That is a simple electronic signature. In many countries it is accepted for everyday agreements such as rental forms, consent forms, quotes and internal approvals, because what matters is that you intended to sign. It does not, however, prove who you are or that the document was not edited afterwards.
A digital signature is different: it uses a certificate issued to you and cryptography to bind your identity to the exact content of the file, and a PDF viewer can verify it. Some contracts, tenders and government procedures require that kind (often called an advanced or qualified signature). If a document asks for a certificate-based signature, use the signing service or token your organisation provides. When in doubt, ask the person who requested your signature what they accept.
Worked example
You receive a 3-page rental agreement and must sign the last page and initial the first two. Open the PDF, draw your full signature, tick Add today's date and press Use this signature. Go to page 3 and press Add to this page; drag the signature onto the line above your printed name and shrink it until it is about the width of a hand-written signature. Then go back to page 1, press Add to this page again, and resize this copy small for the margin (or sign a second time with just your initials). Press Sign and save PDF: you get a 3-page file with three stamps, and the original is unchanged.
Tips for a good-looking signature
- Draw large and slowly. The box is wider than it looks; a bigger signature has smoother curves and looks better after it is scaled down.
- On a phone, use your finger or a stylus in landscape orientation for more room.
- Photo signatures: use a dark pen on plain white paper in even light. The background remover works best with high contrast. Switch it off if your signature is a transparent PNG already.
- Pages with scanned content are signed the same way: the signature is added on top of the page.
- After signing, the signature is part of the page. If you need to correct it, start again from the original file.
- Protect your signature image. Anyone who has a copy of a signed document can copy the signature, so only share signed PDFs with people you trust.
